Gas Turbine Compressor Stations

The following Equitrans gas turbine compressor stations meet the dual requirements of having a total gas turbine capacity of at least 15,000 hp and operating 5,250 hours or more per year (60 percent load factor) based upon the previous year’s operational data (2023):

• Equitrans currently has two gas turbine compressor stations that meet the criteria stated above: one located in Monroe County, Ohio (Plasma Compressor Station) and one located in Wetzel County, West Virginia (Corona Compressor Station).

Compressor stations that either have waste heat recovery units already installed, or have projects that are currently under development or construction, are not included.

Background Information

This information is being posted to meet one of the voluntary requirements of INGAA’s February 2008 whitepaper on Waste Energy Recovery Opportunities for Interstate Natural Gas Pipelines.

Recovering waste heat and generating electricity from the hot exhaust gas of gas turbines located at pipeline compressor stations is seen as a way to promote increased energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Pipeline companies with facilities in the United States, in concert with the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA), have considered ways of expediting the development process for compressor waste heat recovery projects. As a result of those considerations, a number of pipeline companies have agreed to identify, on a voluntary basis, gas turbine compressor stations on their systems that:

• Have a total gas turbine station capacity of at least 15,000 hp; and
• Operated at or more than 5,250 hours per year (60 percent load factor) over the previous 12 months.

Additional information may be provided to third-party waste heat developers upon request, subject to certain conditions and the execution of a confidentiality agreement.
